Works fine on jars. The smooth surface of the grabbers didn't work with the water bottles I buy (Kirkland from Costco) but they are short (3/8 in tall) and don't have pronounced ridges. I think this would work fine on all the name brand water bottles, like Dasani, that have large tops. The opener doesn't quite get to 4 inches. When fully open, it is 3 - 7/8". The nice thing is that it really doesn't take much force to open a jar with this device. I'd purchase more of these.
